About This Course

You're probably familiar with HTML and CSS and you might have heard about HTML5 & CSS3, but do you know how to effectively apply all of the new properties and features to your websites? It's one thing to know the theory, it's another thing to put this theory into practice. In this Code School course, practical application is the name of the game. We'll cut through the theory and show you how to design and build functional websites using the newest HTML5 tags and CSS3 properties.

  • Level 2 - CSS3: Pretty in #EC008C Covers some of the new properties in CSS3 like box-shadow, RGBa, and transitions.
  • Level 3 - Header & Navigation Applying HTML5 and CSS3 properties to our header and navigation elements, and apply CSS3 properties like border-radius and text-shadow.

Functional HTML5 & CSS3 is a great introduction to what's new and improved in the world of HTML/CSS. The video tutorial has the high production values we've come to expect from Envy Labs, and Jason VanLue provides a clear explanation of the diffs in the new versions of HTML/CSS. Both the video and course exercises ooze with code samples to demonstrate the concepts explained in action.

I didn't have any HTML5 or CSS3 experience, and very little HTML or CSS experience at all. This course really helped me to fit the pieces together. It's amazing how much you can really learn by doing!

Thank you guys so much for putting in so much love and effort, not only to give inspiration and best-practices, but also to provide excellent examples, great resources and that little nudge to really try it on the next project. Specially, I liked the combination of theory and first-hand experience on the demo beer web page. The video quality was outstanding and the challenges were appropriate - even building up on each other nicely. Also, I want to mention, that I want to encourage you to keep the attitude of responsible, user-focused web design and development, as you did very well in one of the beginning chapters, as those lessons go further and deeper than a technology or tool could ever go. Thanks for the pleasure...looking forward to the next courses!
