About The Professor

Jason Millhouse

Jason Millhouse

Jason has been teaching since he was a kid and has racked up a bunch of Education degrees since then. A glutton for punishment, he's nearly finished with a Computer Science degree, too. He's built and taught curriculum for over 100 DVDs worth of educational material, barely living to tell the tale. He spends his lack of spare time wishing he could play a few video games, impersonating the British voice of his corgi, Charlie, and being the actual Voice of the University of Central Florida Marching Knights. Reach him with @ItsThrillhouse on Twitter.

Comprehensive Video and Doable Coding Challenges. I originally started learning JavaScript on another online learning website and really struggled. Its methods involved assigning challenges with skills that we had not yet learned. I can see how this could help encourage great googling skills but I'm paying to learn, not to use free resources that are already available alone. The videos were clear and the option to slow down the video speed really helped when I needed to review the code on the screen. I liked that the host was on the green screen along with the code rather than it being just a screen cast.

I've taken several Code School courses, as well as various courses at Codecademy and Treehouse, and this was far and away the best course in terms of the way it was taught. Fantastic clarity, great examples, really builds understanding. I'm a beginner (but am advanced enough to get through the intermediate level Rails / HTML / CSS courses) and this is perfect for me. Would LOVE a course like this for rails!!

This was a nice, short introduction to the very basics of JavaScript's structure and syntax. While you won't come away from this course ready to script away, you will get a sense for 1. Just how well done code school courses are; and 2. the basic building blocks of JS. Eager to get on to RoadTrip part II.
